I’m back

Remember me? I’m the author of Freelancing for Newspapers and almost 200 previous posts on this site. Somehow you all are still reading this blog, so I have decided to return to posting here. I have missed you guys. But there will be changes. I will not limit posts to newspapers. We will discuss all forms of freelancing. In this digitized world, a writer has to diversify or go down in flames. We’ll talk more about that.

Let me bring you up to date on where I am these days and why I disappeared for a while. My husband is in a nursing home with Alzheimer’s Disease. He has been there a little over a year. At this point, he doesn’t know my name, and sometimes he doesn’t know I’m his wife. He remembers nothing of our 26 years together. He doesn’t remember what happened 10 seconds ago. He’s down to about the level of a 2-year-old in many ways. But he’s physically healthy, which means this could go on for years.

It’s a three-hour round trip to where he is, and every visit knocks me out for a while. It’s hard to work. Everything has changed. I never wanted to be alone again, and I had hoped to be in better financial shape at this age. But enough whining. Can you imagine how many stories I can write related to this situation? I’ll never run out of ideas. But I need everyone’s support to keep going. In return, I will be happy to support you in your efforts.

    >I found your blog a while back and will admit I was disappointed that when I found it you were taking a break. I am glad you are back now. I am very sorry about your personal circumstances and I wish you all the best in dealing with it all.
